NIU Hosts Ohio In First Game Of Saturday Doubleheader

Huskies Set For Matchup With Bobcats

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team returns to the NIU Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon to take on the Ohio Bobcats at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and locally on WDKB 94-9 FM, the NIU Huskies app and the Varsity Network App. It is the first of a doubleheader with the NIU men's basketball team taking on Toledo at 3:30 p.m.

NIU (9-5, 1-2 MAC) looks to bounce back from a 79-70 loss at Western Michigan on Wednesday night. Graduate guard Janae Poisson (Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic) led the Huskies with 18 points and made four three-pointers. Poisson is third in the Mid-American Conference with 2.57 threes per game and fifth in three-point percentage at 37.5 percent.
 
The Huskies outrebounded their opponent for the first time in five games on Wednesday night, outrebounding the Broncos 46-35. The 46 rebounds were the second-most for NIU in a game this season, as was the +11 rebound margin. NIU had two players in double-figure rebounds against Western Michigan with A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.) leading the Huskies with 14 and Jayden Marable (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) adding a career-high 10. Davis is the top rebounder in the MAC entering play Saturday at 11.3 per game, which puts her ninth in the nation.
 
NIU is 14-4 at the NIU Convocation Center since the start of the 2021-22 season. The Huskies are averaging 74.8 points per game at home this season, shooting 42.2 percent from the field while holding each of the last four visiting teams under 70 points.
 
Ohio (2-12, 0-3 MAC) was picked to finish seventh in the MAC preseason coaches poll and are 0-3 to start league play after a 69-64 loss to Buffalo Wednesday night. Sophomore guard Yaya Felder led the Bobcats with 22 points and added seven rebounds. Felder is second in the MAC in scoring at 18.4 points per game. Ohio averages 62.4 points per game and is second in the league with 25.5 three-point attempts per game. NIU won both meetings against Ohio last season.
 
Saturday's game starts a stretch of four games out of the next five at the Convocation Center. NIU hosts Miami on Wednesday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m.
