DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team goes on the road this Saturday to face the Eastern Michigan Eagles. Tip-off at the George Gervin GameAbove Center is at 12 p.m. CT, with the game broadcast on ESPN3 and locally on WDKB 94-9 FM as well as the NIU Huskies and Varsity Network apps.
NIU (10-6, 2-3 MAC) looks to get back in the win column after a 74-69 loss to Miami on Wednesday night at the NIU Convocation Center. The Huskies rallied from a 10-point deficit to take a 52-48 lead late in the third quarter. Miami responded with a 12-0 run to go up by eight in the fourth quarter.
Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and
Janae Poisson (Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic) each had a team-high 20 points in the game. Koker also had a game-high four assists.
Senior forward
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) had her 10
th double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds against Miami. It was her 41
st career double-double, moving her into second place all-time at NIU past Hall of Famer Carol Owens. Davis is one of 13 active Division I players with at least 40 career double-doubles. She enters play Saturday ninth in the country with 11.2 rebounds per game, and fifth with 4.7 offensive rebounds per game.
The Huskies have exceled in weekend games this season, going 6-1 this season in games on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. NIU's 86-79 win over DePaul on Saturday, Nov. 12 was the Huskies' first over the Blue Demons since 1994. The Huskies are averaging 73.7 points per game in weekend contests, making nine three-points per game with a +2.3 turnover margin.
Eastern Michigan (9-7, 1-4 MAC) is 1-4 in the Mid-American Conference after a 79-66 loss at Kent State Wednesday night. The Eagles shot 48.3 percent from the field but made just 3-of-16 three-point attempts. Irekpitan Ozzy-Momodu led the Eagles with 22 points off the bench. Lachelle Austin, Eastern Michigan's leading scorer at 12.3 points per game, had 10 points and five rebounds. The Eagles lead the MAC in rebounding at 39.31 per game and rebound margin at +3.8. They are also second in blocks with 5.2 per game. NIU has won nine of the last 13 meetings against Eastern Michigan, including each of the last three.
