NIU Takes Three-Game Winning Streak To Wisconsin Wednesday

DeKALB, Ill. – Winners of three games in a row, the Northern Illinois University women's basketball team heads to the Kohl Center Wednesday night to take on the Wisconsin Badgers. Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m. CT with the game being broadcast on 94-9 WDKB, the NIU Huskies and Varsity Network apps as well as B1G+.
 
NIU (3-3) returned from Puerto Rico with two wins over Radford and Indiana State last weekend. NIU made a season-high 15 three-pointers in its 72-55 win over Radford last Friday, with senior forward Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) leading the way with a career-high 20 points. She is third in the Mid-American Conference in rebounding with 8.5 boards per game and is second on the team in scoring at 10.3 points per game.
 
Redshirt-Junior guard Sidney McCrea (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) scored a career-high 20 points of her own in NIU's 67-62 win over Indiana State the next day. McCrea is second in the Mid-American Conference, and among the top 20 players in the country, in three-point field goal percentage at 53.8 percent. Over the last four games McCrea is averaging 13.3 points per game off the bench.
 
The Huskies have scored over 65 points in each victory of this three-game winning streak. They have also improved defensively, holding the last three opponents to 59 points per game, 31.8 percent from the field and 26.6 percent from the three-point arc. NIU has made 31 three-pointers in the last three games, 25 of which came in the two games at the Puerto Rico Clasico. The Huskies lead the MAC, and are 17th nationally, in three-pointers per game at 9.3.
 
Wisconsin (4-2) split its two games at the Fort Myers Tip Off in Fort Myers, Fla. last weekend, defeating Boston College last Saturday 82-72. The Badgers outscored the Eagles 50-37 in the second half to snap a two-game losing streak. Sania Copeland and Serah Williams each had a team-high 18 points for Wisconsin with Williams adding a game-high eight rebounds.
 
Williams leads the Badgers with 14.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. The Badgers are third in the Big Ten in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 36.4 percent. Wisconsin leads the all-time series against NIU 10-5, winning the last three meetings.
 
NIU is on the road again on Sunday, Dec. 3 to take on SIUE at 1 p.m.
