DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team heads to Edwardsville, Ill. Sunday to take on the SIUE Cougars. Tip-off is at 1 p.m. at First Community Arena, with the game broadcast on ESPN+ as well as locally on WDKB 94-9 FM and the NIU Huskies and Varsity Network apps.
Sunday's game wraps up a stretch of seven out of eight games on the road to start the season for the Huskies. NIU had its three-game winning streak snapped Wednesday night in a 75-54 loss at Wisconsin.
Moriah Prewitt (Urbandale, Iowa/Des Moines Christian School),
Kortney Drake (Wilton, Iowa/Kirkwood CC) and
Jayden Marable (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) each had a team-high 11 points. Prewitt's 11 points were a career-high as each player made three three-pointers.
Marable leads NIU with 13.3 points, 5.3 assists and 1.9 steals per game. She had her fourth game this season with at least 10 points, six rebounds and three assists against Wisconsin on Wednesday. Over the last three games, Marable is 8-for-17 from the three-point line. Marable leads the Mid-American Conference with 37 total assists on the season and is second in assists per game.
NIU (3-4) enters the weekend ninth in the nation with 29.6 three-point attempts per game and 15
th with 9.6 three-pointers made per game. Both of those marks top the MAC. The Huskies have made at least nine threes in a game five times this season, including double-digit threes in each of the last three games. NIU is also sixth in the nation in free throw percentage at 81.8 percent. The Huskies shot a season-high 91.7 percent at the foul line against Wisconsin.
SIUE (1-7) goes into Sunday's contest after a 103-59 loss at Michigan on Wednesday night, the Cougars' fifth consecutive loss. Sofie Lowis and Molly Sheehan each had a team-high 14 points against the Wolverines. KK Rodriguez, SIUE's leading scorer on the year, added 12 points. Rodriguez is 14
th in the nation in scoring at 21.6 points per game. She has scored over 30 points in a game three times this season. The Cougars average 72.5 points per game but are allowing 84.3 points per game. NIU leads the all-time series against SIUE 7-4.
