Women’s Basketball Back In Action Saturday Against Concordia Chicago

Huskies Close Calendar Year Against Cougars At Convocation Center

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 30, hosting the Concordia Chicago Cougars at 1 p.m. at the NIU Convocation Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, as well as locally on 94-9 WDKB and the NIU Huskies and Varsity Network apps.
 
The game is the second game included in the "Holidays with the Huskies" mini-plan where fans can also receive tickets for the women's basketball games on Jan. 3 and Jan. 6, as well as the NIU men's basketball game on Jan. 2, for just $25.
 
NIU (5-5) kept its home record perfect on Monday, Dec. 18 with a 65-55 win over Eastern Illinois. Sidney McCrea (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) led four Huskies in double-figure scoring with 15 points, making 4-of-6 three-pointers. McCrea is second in the Mid-American Conference in three-point shooting at 46.8 percent for the season, which puts her 20th in the country.
 
Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) added 14 points and seven rebounds, her sixth straight game with seven rebounds. Over the last six games the senior forward has averaged 11.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. NIU outrebounded Eastern Illinois by 12, 45-33, the Huskies' largest rebound margin of the season.
 
The Huskies enter Saturday's game on a seven-game home court winning streak at the NIU Convocation Center. NIU has averaged 78 points per game in those seven victories. In three home games this season the Huskies have allowed just 60.3 points per game.
 
Concordia Chicago (5-5) was last in action on Dec. 9 in a 95-66 loss to the UW-La Crosse Eagles. The Cougars shot 35.3 percent from the field in the game but could not overcome a 38-13 first quarter deficit. Melia Perry led Concordia Chicago with 16 points. Mikalah Ellis, Concordia's leading scorer at 13.7 points per game, had 10 points and four rebounds against UW-La Crosse.
