NIU Heads To Ohio For Saturday Matchup

DeKALB, IL - The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team looks to continue its recent run of success Saturday afternoon when the Huskies go on the road to face the Ohio Bobcats. Tip-off at the Convocation Center is set for 12 p.m. CT with the game broadcast on ESPN3, WDKB 94-9 FM and the Varsity Network App.
 
NIU (12-10, 4-7 MAC) won its second straight game Wednesday night with a resounding 88-63 win over the Akron Zips at the NIU Convocation Center. The Huskies used a 24-2 run in the third quarter to take a 68-47 lead. NIU shot 50 percent from the field and made 13 three-pointers. The Huskies also outrebounded Akron by 23, 44-21. NIU now leads the Mid-American Conference in rebounding at 39.09 per game, as well as three-pointers with 8.4 per game.
 
Senior guard Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) made a career-high seven three-pointers in the win over Akron, leading all scorers with a season-high 27 points. It was her eighth 20-point effort of the season. She was 7-for-9 from long range against the Zips which helped propel her to second in the MAC in three-point percentage at 38.7 percent. Koker also had five assists for the third straight game.
 
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) recorded her 15th double-double of the season with 19 points and a game-high 16 rebounds Wednesday night. That put her over 900 career rebounds, making her the seventh Huskie in program history to reach that mark. Davis is sixth in the nation in rebounding, leading the MAC with 12.1 per game. She is also fifth in the country with 4.8 offensive rebounds per game.
 
Ohio (4-18, 2-9 MAC) is 2-9 in the league after an 81-44 loss to Bowling Green on Wednesday night. Sophomore guard Yaya Felder is second in the MAC in scoring at 20.5 points per game and third in assists at 4.2 per game. She was held to eight points by the Falcons Wednesday night. Freshman Jaya McClure led Ohio with 14 points off the bench. The Bobcats are averaging 62.2 points per game this season.
 
NIU has won the last three meetings in its series with the Bobcats. The Huskies won 78-66 on Jan. 14 at the NIU Convocation Center. Davis led NIU with 16 points and 11 rebounds as Koker added 13 points and five assists. Felder led all scorers with 23 points and nine assists.
 
The Huskies are back on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 15 to take on Bowling Green. Tip-off at Stroh Center is set for 6 p.m. CT.
