NIU Hosts Ball State For Cram The Convo Saturday

Huskies Take On First-Place Cardinals In First Game Of Doubleheader

DeKALB, IL - The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team looks to ride the momentum of Wednesday night's win at Bowling Green when it hosts the Ball State Cardinals Saturday at 1 p.m. for Cram The Convo at the NIU Convocation Center.
 
The first 1,000 fans in the building will receive a pair of NIU branded winter gloves, supported by Northwestern Medicine. Fans are encouraged to wear black for a BlackOut of the Convo. The NIU men's basketball team will take on Miami at 3:30 p.m. following the women's game. Join the NIU Alumni Association in the South Lobby between games for free snacks, hot chocolate and raffle prizes. Saturday's game will be broadcast on ESPN3, as well as locally on WDKB 94-9 FM and the NIU Huskies and Varsity Network apps.
 
NIU (13-11, 5-8 MAC) won it's third game out of four on Wednesday night, snapping Bowling Green's 11-game winning streak with an 85-81 win at the Stroh Center. It was the Falcons' first loss on their home court this season. The win was head coach Lisa Carlsen's 300th of her career. NIU shot 53.8 percent from the field and made 13 three-pointers. Over the last four games, NIU is averaging 79.0 points per game and shooting over 45 percent from the field and over 40 percent from the three-point line.
 
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) has excelled over the last four games, averaging 18.8 points and 17.5 rebounds per game while shooting over 65 percent from the field. Davis is fourth in the nation in rebounding with 12.5 per game, with double-digit rebounds in 19 consecutive games. She is also fifth in the country with 17 double-doubles. Davis is 10th among active NCAA Division I players with 47 career double-doubles.
 
Saturday's game features the top-two three-point shooting teams in the Mid-American Conference. NIU leads the league with 8.5 three-pointers per game with Ball State second with 8.3. The Huskies have made at least 10 threes in four of the last five games. Over that stretch, Janae Poisson (Matteson, Ill./Marian Catholic) has made 21 three-pointers and is shooting 46.7 percent from long range.
 
Ball State (22-4, 12-1 MAC) is on a 10-game winning streak after winning 78-53 over Ohio last Wednesday night. That victory, combined with NIU's win at Bowling Green, put the Cardinals in sole possession of first place in the MAC. Graduate forward Thelma Dis Agustsdottir led all scorers with 34 points, making 9-of-13 three-point attempts. Agustsdottir leads the MAC in three-point percentage at 41.7 percent and also with 3.19 threes per game. Redshirt Senior Anna Clephane leads the Cardinals in scoring at 15.0 points per game. Ball State won the first meeting between the two teams this season in Muncie, Ind. on Feb. 1 76-68.
 
Following Saturday's game, NIU goes on the road on Wednesday, Feb. 22 to take on the Miami RedHawks. Tip-off at Millett Hall is set for 6 p.m. CT.
