DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team plays the first of its two remaining road games on Tuesday night, Feb. 21, as the Huskies travel to Ohio to face the Bobcats. Game time in Athens is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and will be available on ESPN+ as well as 94-9 WDKB and The Varsity Network app.
With his seven assists last time out against Miami,
Kaleb Thornton (Bolingbrook, Ill.) moved into 10th on NIU's career assist list, passing Carl Armato (284 - 1979-80, 81-84), Thornton currently has 286 career assists. The Bolingbrook, Ill., native also moved into the single-season top-10 against Miami, as his 119 assists this season is the seventh-best mark in Huskie history.
Anthony Crump (Inkster, Mich.) posted his second double-double of the season on Saturday against the RedHawks with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Crump, who is averaging 14.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per game over the last three contests, is the only Huskie to have appeared in all 27 games this season. In conference play, Crump is fourth in the MAC in field goal percentage, shooting 62.9 percent, and 14th in rebounding, averaging 5.6 boards per game.
The Huskies will be looking for their seventh road win of the season on Tuesday in Athens. NIU's six road wins overall this season is tied for the third-most in the MAC with Ball State, behind only Kent State (8) and Toledo (8).
The Bobcats have a 16-11 overall record and an 8-6 mark in conference play. Ohio has won five-straight games, including a 76-59 victory at Central Michigan last time out (Feb. 18). Four players are scoring in double figures for Ohio, led by Dwight Wilson at 15.6 points per game. Wilson is also averaging 9.3 rebounds per contest, third-best in the MAC. Jaylin Hunter is averaging 12.5 points per game; Miles Brown adds 10.8 points per contest and AJ Brown is scoring 10.0 points per game.
Ohio claimed the first meeting of the season against NIU, 82-76, in DeKalb on Feb. 7.
Following Tuesday's contest, NIU will head on the road for the final time in the regular season on Saturday, Feb. 25, when the Huskies visit Central Michigan, before coming home for the final two games of the season next week.
