Huskies Host Eastern Michigan In Pivotal MAC Game Wednesday

NIU Can Clinch Tournament Berth With Win Over Eagles

DeKALB, IL - The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team plays its final regular season home game Wednesday night when the Eastern Michigan Eagles come to the NIU Convocation Center. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. CT. Tickers for Wednesday's game are available by logging on to NIUHuskies.com/tickets or by calling the NIU Athletics Ticket Office at (815) 753-PACK (7225).
 
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ as well as locally on 94-9 WDKB and the NIU Huskies and Varsity Network apps.
 
Wednesday night's game is Greek Night. NIU Greek Life will be competing throughout the night in various events as part of Greek Week.
 
With two games left in the regular season, NIU (15-12, 7-9 MAC) can clinch its Mid-American Conference berth Wednesday night with a victory. The Huskies are tied with Akron for fifth place in the MAC at 7-9, one game ahead of Eastern Michigan, Western Michigan and Miami who are all 6-10. The Huskies earned a key victory last Saturday with an 84-80 double overtime win over Central Michigan at the Convocation Center on Senior Day. Junior guard Jayden Marable (Bolingbrook, Ill./Bolingbrook) played all 50 minutes, leading NIU with a career-high 23 points. She scored 17 points in the second half and overtimes.
 
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) tied the NIU career double-doubles record with her 50th last Saturday. Davis had 20 points and a game-high 19 rebounds, making the eventual game-winning basket with 0:31 left in the second overtime. Davis is currently one of 10 active Division I players with at least 50 career double-doubles and is fifth in the nation this season with 19. She is tied for third in the country with 12.6 rebounds per game. Davis enters the final week of the regular season with 980 career rebounds, 10 away from tying Ally Lehman for sixth all-time at NIU and 20 away from 1,000.
 
Eastern Michigan (14-13, 6-10 MAC) comes to DeKalb on the heels of a 75-69 loss at Kent State last Saturday. Olivia Smith led the Eagles with 20 points as Tayra Eke added 19. Eastern Michigan is second in the MAC in rebounding at 37.67 rebounds per game, trailing only NIU's 38.70 per game. Redshirt-Junior forward Ce'Nara Skanes leads the Eagles with 12.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. Eastern Michigan won the first meeting of the season 66-61 in overtime on Jan. 21 in Ypsilanti, Mich.
 
The Huskies close the regular season at Kent State on Saturday, March 4 at 1 p.m. CT.
