Women’s Basketball Hosts Akron For Play 4 Kay Pink Game

DeKALB, IL - The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team is back in action at the NIU Convocation Center Wednesday night when the Huskies host the Akron Zips at 6 p.m. The game will be available on ESPN+, WDKB 94-9 FM and the Varsity Network and NIU Huskies apps.
 
Wednesday's game is the annual Play 4 Kay Pink Game. NIU (11-10, 3-7 MAC) returns to DeKalb following a 72-62 win at Buffalo last Saturday. The Huskies dominated the glass against the Bulls, outrebounding Buffalo 51-25. NIU's 51 rebounds were a season-high as was the +26 rebound margin. The Huskies had 19 offensive rebounds and turned them into 22 second chance points. NIU is second in the Mid-American Conference in rebounding at 38.86 per game.
 
A'Jah Davis (DeKalb, Ill./Montverde Academy [Fla.]) tied a career-high with 21 rebounds, adding a team-high 18 points for her 14th double-double of the season. Davis is sixth in the nation in double-doubles, as well as rebounding at 11.9 per game.
 
The Huskies got a scoring lift from Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) who had 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the win last Saturday. It was her 11th career game with at least 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. She leads the Huskies with 15.5 points, 3.7 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
 
Koker scored her 1,000th career point in last season's meeting against the Zips, a 79-67 win at the Convocation Center. She led all scorers with 28 points in that game. NIU has won each of the last five games against Akron and seven of the last eight. Akron is 14-7 on the season and 5-5 in the MAC after a 76-71 loss at Western Michigan last Saturday. Reagan Bass and Rachel Martindale each had a team-high 23 points for the Zips, with Bass adding 13 rebounds. Bass is fourth in the MAC in scoring at 17.8 points per game and fifth in rebounding at 8.0 per game.
 
Following Wednesday's game, NIU goes on the road on Saturday, Feb. 11 to take on the Ohio Bobcats. Tip-off in Athens is set for 12 p.m. CT.
