Women's Tennis | March 24

DeKALB, Ill.  – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team rebounded from a 7-0 loss to Toledo earlier in the day to defeat the University of St. Francis (Ill.) 6-1 Friday night at the Nelson Tennis Center inside Chick Evans Field House. The split left the Huskies with an 11-9 record on the season. The Huskies are 1-1 versus Mid-American Conference foes.
 
Freshmen Nataly Ninova, Jenna Horne and McKenna Chudy dominated their USF opponents, dropping just two games between the three of them. Ninova, at No. 2 singles, defeated Gabriella Noa 6-0, 6-1 and Jenna Horne defeated Heather Heintz by an identical score at No. 4 singles. Chudy scored a "double bagel" – a 6-0, 6-0 victory – at No. 5 singles.
 
Chudy and Horne teamed up to shut out their opponents at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, while Angelica Ross and Josefina Trella defeated their opponents 6-1 at the No. 3 position.
 
Toledo, ranked No. 69 nationally, improved to 11-3 on the season, 2-0 in the MAC with the win over NIU. The Rockets took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3 by scores of 6-3 and 6-2, respectively. UT swept the singles matches with straight set wins in five of six matches.  Sophomore Angelica Ross took the second set from Sanjana Tallamraju at No. 5 singles before losing 10-5 in the super tiebreaker.
 
The Huskies play host to MAC opponent Buffalo Sunday at 11 a.m. in the Nelson Tennis Center. Fans are invited to come to the match and meet NIU mascot Mission III.
