Huskies To Battle Kent State On CBS Sports Network Sunday Evening

DeKALB, IL - The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team, winner of five of its last six games, goes back on the road to take on the Kent State Golden Flashes for a national television audience on CBS Sports Network Sunday night at 5 p.m. CT.

The game will also be broadcast locally on WDKB 94-9 FM as well as the Varsity Network and NIU Huskies apps.

NIU (8-6, 2-1 MAC) won its first road game of the season Wednesday night with a 67-62 win at Ohio. The Huskies shot 42.4 percent from the field and 73.3 percent from the free throw line. Senior forward Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) led all players with 16 points and 13 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. It was her fourth game this year with double digit rebounds. Stonebraker is third in the Mid-American Conference in rebounding, averaging 8.0 per game. In three conference games so far Stonebraker is averaging 10 points and 8.3 rebounds per game.

Sunday's game features two of the top-five scoring defenses in the MAC. Kent State is second in the MAC allowing 59.2 points per game with the Huskies fourth at 64.8 points allowed per game. Over the last six games NIU has held its opponents to 55.0 points per game with a rebound margin of +6.3. The Huskies had their second-largest rebound margin of the season at Ohio Wednesday night, outrebounding the Bobcats by 16 47-31.

Kent State (9-4, 3-0 MAC) leads the MAC in scoring offense at 74.1 points per game, assists with 15.9 per game, as well as in three-point percentage defense (27.1 percent), rebound margin (+6.3), and turnover margin (+5.00). The Golden Flashes won their fifth consecutive game Wednesday night, running away with a 69-38 win at Miami to remain perfect in MAC play. Freshman forward Janae Tyler led Kent State with 16 points off the bench in just 12 minutes. Katie Shumate had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The redshirt-senior is one of four Golden Flashes to average double-figure scoring this season, leading the team with 11.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game.
