DeKALB, Ill.—Coming off their first road victory of the season, the Northern Illinois University Huskies wrestling program returns to Victor E. Court to host Central Michigan in a MAC dual on January 27. The Huskies (9-2, 3-1 MAC) will face off against the Chippewas of Central Michigan (3-5, 1-0 MAC) at 1 p.m.
Fans coming to the wrestling duals should note the NIU women's basketball team will be in action at 1 p.m. in the Convocation Center and the
NIU Clear Bag Policy will be in effect. Admission for the wrestling dual is free and will mark the team's youth and wrestling club day.
Central Michigan has a 13-33-2 series lead over NIU. The Huskies have dropped three of the last four meetings between the squads, with the last Huskie victory coming on January 5, 2020.
In the
NCAA Coaches' Rankings, released on January 22, the Huskies saw three wrestlers land spots inside the top-33.
Blake West (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) sits at No. 33 at 125 pounds,
Jaivon Jones (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Nordonia) lands at No. 30 at 149 pounds, and
Jacobi Jackson (St. Louis, Mo./Desmet Jesuit) rounds out the Huskies at No. 26 at 285 pounds.
Jackson also collects ranking spots from
Intermat and
FloWrestling. Jackson sits at No. 31 in the Intermat poll and comes in at No. 29 according to FloWrestling. Jones lands at No. 23 in the
WrestleStat rankings.
This weekend will feature two ranked wrestlers at 149. Jones and Corbyn Munson (No. 8) of Central Michigan are both ranked in the NCAA Coaches' poll.
West defeated Cleveland State's Ben Aranda for his 20th win of the season on January 19. West is the 58th Huskie in program history to reach 20 or more wins in a season. West becomes the 16th wrestler to achieve 20 wins in a season.
