DeKALB, Ill.—Heading into the final week of the regular season, the Northern Illinois University Huskies travel to the Miami University RedHawks to end the 2024 campaign. The Huskies and RedHawks will face off against each other on November 15-16 in Oxford, Ohio.
First serve is set for 5:30 p.m. CT on November 15 with the season finale beginning at 3 p.m. CT on November 16.
NIU enters the final week of play with a record of 3-23 and 1-15 MAC while Miami holds a record of 7-20 and 1-15 in MAC play.
The Huskies and RedHawks lone MAC win comes over Kent State. The Huskies swept Kent State on October 10 while the RedHawks beat Kent State in a five-set match on October 18.
Miami Preview
Heading into the series this week, NIU holds the series edge, a 28-24 record against Miami. The Huskies have won the last four meetings, including a pair of five-set thrillers in 2022 and 2023.
Chelsea Williams leads Miami with 2.42 kills per set and 208 kills this season. Raegan Lantz and Ana Vetter each average of two kills per set to round out the top-3 for Miami. Lantz sits with 2.37 kills per set while Vetter enters with 2.01 kills per set.
At the service line, Vetter leads the team with .32 service aces per set for a total of 31 aces this season.
Defensively, Anna McClure leads the team with 3.68 digs per set and 361 total digs this season.
Gentry Warrick leads the blocking efforts for Miami with 1.14 blocks per set. Warrick has totaled 112 blocks this season.
Milestones Reached
Charli Atiemo (Milford, Michigan/Farmington Hills Mercy) became the 23rd Huskie in program history to surpass 1,000-career kills on November 8 against Bowling Green.
Atiemo has marked 13 double-digit kill games this season.
The most recent Huskie to achieve 1,000 kills in their career as a Huskie was Meg Wolowicz (2015-18).
Crew Hoffmeier (Louisville, Ky./Assumption), who passed 1,000 digs in her career last season, is just 21 digs away from having 1,000 as a Huskie.
Huskie Leaders
Nazli Güvener (Ankara, Turkey/Elvankent Sinar), Atiemo, and
Ava Grevengoed (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet West) lead the Huskies on the offensive side of the net.
Güvener leads all Huskies with 2.87 kills per set, for a total of 241 kills this season. Grevengoed's 269 kills to lead the Huskies as she averages 2.80 per set. Atiemo rounds out the top-3 with 2.60 kills per set and 252 kills this season.
Grevengoed's 31 service aces lead the Huskies, averaging .32 per set. With those marks, Grevengoed is in the top-10 in the MAC for service aces and aces per set.
Rylea Alvin (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) is leading the Huskies with .70 blocks per set and leads the team with 60 total blocks this season. Atiemo remains second on the team in blocks per set at .57 and has recorded 55 blocks this season.
Leading the NIU defensive efforts, Hoffmeier has 4.82 digs per set and is second in the conference for total digs and digs per set.
