PEORIA, Ill. – Bailey Wilk (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) and
Camille Jackson (Ames, Iowa/Ames) wrapped up the Northern Illinois University cross country season as they competed at the NCAA Midwest Regional on Friday (Nov. 15) on the Newman Golf Course.
"
Bailey Wilk ran a lifetime PR for six kilometers, so she ended her season on a very positive note, you always want to be running your best at the end of the season," said NIU head coach Juan Carrillo. "Camille (Jackson), it was a tough day for her today, so now we have to get ready for indoor (track) season. We showed improvement from our training, and it was overall a positive."
Wilk led the way for NIU with a season-best six-kilometer time of 22:25.8 in the final race of the season. Oklahoma's Leah Jeruto won the individual competition with a time of 19:42.9 while Oklahoma State claimed the team title with a score of 61. With just two athletes competing, NIU did not record a team score.
Wilk finished just outside of the top 150 in an elite field that featured most of the Big 12 and many members of the Big Ten. The Huntley, Ill., native's time of 22:25.8 bettered her previous best from the MAC Championship by over 40 seconds (23:09.3). Wilk's time also topped her previous mark on this same course from the Bradley Pink Classic (Oct. 18) by nearly a minute (23:20.79).
Jackson finished the season with a time of 23:52.3.
With the conclusion of Friday's meet, NIU will now look ahead to the indoor track and field season which begins in early December.
