NIU Women’s Basketball Looks For Back-To-Back Road Wins After 77-68 Win Wednesday

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball looks to win back-to-back road games Sunday when the Huskies head to Milwaukee to face the Panthers at the Klotsche Center.
 
Tip-off is at 12 p.m. with the game broadcast on 94-9 WDKB, TuneIn and the NIU Huskies app. The game will be telecast on ESPN+.
 
NIU (2-2) won 77-68 at Chicago State Wednesday night, shooting 47.2 percent from the field. The Huskies are second in the Mid-American Conference in field goal percentage at 46.2 percent. They also lead the MAC in three-point percentage, shooting 44.0 percent from long range which puts the Huskies 10th in the country early in the season.
 
Four Huskies scored in double figures Wednesday night led by junior guard Alecia Doyle's (Carterville, Ill./SEMO) 21 points. Doyle made 5-of-10 shots from the field and was also 9-for-10 from the free throw line. In the last three games Doyle is averaging 16.7 points per game. She leads NIU in scoring at 14.3 points per game.
 
Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) had a season-high 17 points and eight rebounds at Chicago State. The graduate forward was one of four players Wednesday night to have at least six rebounds. Laura Nickel (Marshall, Wis./Marshall) tied a career-high with eight boards while Shannon Blacher (Burr Ridge, Ill./Montini Catholic) set a career-high with seven in 12 minutes off the bench. Sidney McCrea (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) had six to go with 13 points, four assists and two steals.
 
Milwaukee (2-4) has lost its last two games after a 111-46 loss at #10 Kansas State on Wednesday night. Sophomore forward Jorey Buwalda led the Panthers with eight points as Kacee Baumhower added seven. Baumhower leads Milwaukee in scoring at 18.3 points per game. As a team the Panthers average 67.7 points per game and shoots 74.8 percent from the free throw line.
 
NIU leads the all-time series against Milwaukee 12-10. The Huskies won the last meeting 69-50 at the Convocation Center on Nov. 28, 2021, holding the Panthers to 2-for-22 from long range. The home team has won each of the last five meetings in the series.
 
The Huskies return to the Convocation Center on Wednesday, Nov. 27 to host UIC. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at NIUHuskies.com and through the NIU Athletics Ticket Office at (815) 753-PACK (7225).
