NIU Women's Basketball Hosts St. Thomas Sunday For Hometown Heroes Day

NIU To Face Tommies For First Time In Program History

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team returns to the NIU Convocation Center on Sunday afternoon to host the St. Thomas Tommies at 1 p.m. for Hometown Heroes Day.
 
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ as well as 94-9 WDKB, TuneIn and the NIU Huskies App.
 
Military personnel can receive tickets for Sunday's game through Vettix.com. NIU Athletics will recognize various Hometown Heroes throughout the game, including City of DeKalb Fire Chief Mike Thomas. Fans entering the Convocation Center on Sunday can receive an NIU American flag decal upon entry.
 
Sunday's game also starts the $5 Kids Combo, available for all Friday, Saturday and Sunday home events in the Convocation Center this winter. The meal deal includes a hot dog, a small bag of chips and a small soft drink or water.
 
Women's basketball season tickets, as well as single-game tickets, are on sale now at NIUHuskies.com and by calling the NIU Athletics Ticket Office at (815) 753-PACK (7225). Pricing starts at just $35 for general admission seats and $50 for reserved tickets located in section 103 as well as 111-113. Courtside seat season tickets for NIU women's basketball are available for $275 which includes the cost of a season ticket plus a $225 per seat license. Single-game tickets are $6 for general admission and $8 for reserved seats.
 
NIU (1-1) hung with the Iowa Hawkeyes early Wednesday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, leading 16-15 in the second quarter before a 14-0 Hawkeye run put Iowa up 29-16 midway through. The Hawkeyes forced 25 NIU turnovers and went on to win 91-73. Graduate forward Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) led three Huskies in double figure scoring with 15 points. Stonebraker scored 12 of her 15 points in the second half.
 
Alecia Doyle (Carterville, Ill./SEMO) had 14 points, going 7-for-8 from the free throw line. Doyle also had three steals, one shy of tying her career-high. Sidney McCrea (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) made four three-pointers for her 12 points, adding five assists. Through two games this season, McCrea has eight assists against only one turnover.
 
Sunday marks the first meeting on the basketball floor between NIU and St. Thomas. The Tommies, in their fourth season at Division I since reclassifying from Division III, are 2-0 on the year after an 84-81 overtime win over Milwaukee last Monday and a 99-33 victory over Crown on Thursday. St. Thomas shot 47.4 percent from the field against Crown and had a 52-34 advantage on the glass. Senior guard Jade Hill leads the Tommies in scoring at 22.0 points per game. Last season St. Thomas went 15-16 and finished fifth in the Summit League with a 7-9 record.
 
NIU goes on the road on Wednesday, Nov. 20 for a 6 p.m. game at Chicago State.
