Cleveland, Ohio - Northern Illinois University freshman gymnast Dawsyn Sallee has been named the Mid-American Conference Specialist of the Week following her performance in NIU's quad meet victory Sunday.

Sallee competed on vault and floor exercise in the Huskies' home meet and earned team high scores in both events. The Versailles, Ky. product (Woodford County HS) scored a 9.850 on vault and then recorded a 9.925 on floor to pace the Huskies as they set a new team record on floor exercise with a 49.475.

"Dawsyn's has been working hard to improve and it's great to see her be rewarded for it," head coach Sam Morreale said.

The Specialist of the Week honor goes to a gymnast who competes in one or two events. Sallee is the first Huskie gymnast to receive a MAC weekly honor in 2024.

The Huskies scored 195.800 to post the quad-meet victory over Illinois State, Alaska-Anchorage and Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

The 9.925 on floor tied Sallee's season high, which was set at the Tennessee Collegiate Classic on January 19. The Huskies set an all-time high score of 196.400 at that meet. Her 9.850 on vault also tied a season high which she had scored twice previously.
Sallee is averaging a 9.813 on vault and a 9.753 on floor this season.

NIU will be back in action on Saturday, March 2, when they travel to Raleigh, N.C. for a quad-meet against nationally ranked NC State, Iowa State and Temple. The Huskies will be back home on Sunday, March 10 for their last home meet of 2024.
