DeKalb, Ill. - The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team took down Judson University, 7-0, on Friday at the Nelson Tennis Center.
"Our team competed well today," NIU head coach René Vidal said. "We look forward to getting back to conference play tomorrow in Chicago."
The Huskies opened the dual by taking all three doubles matches.
Mikael Vollbach (Rothis, Austria) and Cheng En Tsai (Taipei, Taiwan) won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Saul Berdullas (Santiago de Compostela, Spain) and Armin Koschtojan (Haale (Salle), Germany) took their match at No.2 doubles to secure the first point. Christopher Norlin (Stockholm, Sweden) and Iker Gaztambide Arrastia (Pamplona, Spain) won 6-3 at No. 3 doubles as the dual headed to singles play.
Vollbach took his match at No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-3. At No. 2 singles Berdullas took down Chadd Kerrigan, 6-0, 6-4.
Norlin clinched the dual for the Huskies at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Judson's Nicolas Donoso.
Arrastia was victorious at No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-1. Luke Welker (Elgin, Ill.) controlled his match at No. 6 singles winning 6-0, 6-2, and Sam Klein (Elm Grove, Wis.) closed the dual with a win, 7-5, win at No. 5 singles.
NIU will be back in action on Saturday (March 16) with a conference road trip to UIC, beginning at 2 p.m.
