Women's Tennis | April 12

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to league-leading Toledo Friday at Twos Athletic Club in Toledo.
 
The Rockets improved to 14-4 overall and remain undefeated versus Mid-American Conference foes with a 7-0 record, while the Huskies are 13-10, 2-5 in the MAC.
 
NIU and Toledo split doubles matches at lines one and two with UT's Cassie Alcala and Julia Kuszynski defeating Diana Lukyanova and Isabella Righi, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles before the Huskies Erika Dimitriev and Isabella Righi defeated UT's Sloane Teske and Sanjana Tallamraju 6-3. The point came down to the third match, where the Rockets' duo of Gaby Rondon and Audrey Moutama claimed the point for Toledo with a 6-3 win.
 
Toledo picked up straight-set wins at No. 3 and No. 1 singles, respectively, to take a 3-0 lead and clinched the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win on line six. 
 
Dimitriev earned the Huskies' lone point on the day with a three-set win over Teske, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Jenna Horne also extended Moutama to three sets after moving into the No. 5 singles spot due to injury. She won the second set of her match, 6-2, before falling in the third.
 
NIU returns home to face Bowling Green Sunday. The match will begin at approximately 2 p.m. following the completion of the NIU men's tennis match at the Sycamore High School Tennis Courts in Sycamore, Illinois.
