NIU Hosts Miami Tuesday in First of Two Straight Home Games

DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's basketball team hosts a pair of home games this week at the NIU Convocation Center, beginning on Tuesday night, Jan. 14, when the Huskies welcome league-leading Miami to DeKalb for a 6 p.m. start. The matchup with the RedHawks will be available on ESPN+ and WDKB 94-9 FM.

Tuesday's contest is Student Appreciation Night with NIU students with a valid OneCard able to purchase popcorn for just $1. NIU students currently enrolled receive FREE ADMISSION to all NIU Athletics regular season home events.  All student tickets are claimed by the NIU mobile ticket system.

Last time out at Ohio, Quentin Jones (Chicago, Ill./Marian Catholic) led the way for NIU with 25 points, along with eight rebounds and five assists. Jones leads the Huskies in scoring, and ranks eighth in the MAC, at 15.8 points per contest. Jones has scored in double figures a team-high 12 times, including five games of 20-plus points.

Quaran McPherson (South Jamaica Queens, N.Y./Link Year Prep) had 14 points against the Bobcats, including a pair of triples. McPherson ranks 13th in the MAC in three-point percentage at 38.9 percent. Since missing the Illinois State game due to injury, McPherson has returned to average 14.3 points and 6.0 rebounds over the last four games. 

The RedHawks come to DeKalb with an 11-4 overall record, 3-0 in MAC play, after topping Western Michigan, 91-71, on Saturday in Oxford. Three players score in double figures for Miami, led by Kam Craft at 17.0 points per game. Peter Suder adds 14.6 points per contest while Eian Elmer is scoring 12.1 points per contest. 

Miami leads the league in scoring at 83.5 points per game, in scoring margin at +11.9, in field goal percentage at 49.9 percent and in three-point percentage at 40.4 percent.

The road team has won each of the last four games in the series between NIU and Miami, including a 62-59 Huskie victory in the only meeting last season (Feb. 6, 2024) in Oxford. 

Following Tuesday's game, NIU will be home again on Saturday, Jan. 18, when the Huskies host Central Michigan.
