MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—A pair of quick wins for the Huskies would be the only points scored as the Northern Illinois University wrestling program dropped their second straight match of the season to the Central Michigan University Chippewas, 29-11.
 
The Chippewas hand the Huskies their first conference loss of the season as the Huskies move to 2-3 on the season and 2-1 MAC.
 
Blake West (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee) captured his third technical fall victory of the season as he defeated Kaden Chinavare of Central Michigan at 125 pounds. West posted a score of 15-0, getting the technical fall in 6:29 as West moves to 3-0 in MAC duals and 14-6 on the season. West is currently ranked No. 20 by Intermat and the Open Mat, No. 13 by WrestleStat, and No. 24 by FloWrestling.
 
Markel Baker (Freeport, Ill./Freeport) earned his first win via fall this evening, defeating Grant Stahl in 6:13 in the 133 match-up. Baker moves to 3-0 in conference duals and 9-5 on the season.
 
"We learned some tough lessons tonight," said NIU head coach Ryan Ludwig. "We will be preparing hard for our next opportunity."
 
In the 141 bout, Jacob Brya (St. Johns, Mich./St. Johns) fell to Andrew Austin as Austin pinned Brya in two minutes. Collin Arch (Palmyra, Mo./Palmyra) dropped a 17-8 major decision to Mason Shrader at 149 pounds.
 
Landen Johnson (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna) took on No. 24/18 Johnny Lovett in the 157-pound bout. Johnson fell in a major decision, 13-5 to Lovett. At 165 pounds, Brett Smith (Troy, Mo./Buchanan) dropped a 4-1 decision to Tyler Swiderski.
 
The 174-pound bout featured Tommy Bennett (Evergreen Park, Ill./Brother Rice) taking on No. 9/10 Alex Cramer. Bennett dropped the match, falling in a 9-5 decision. At 184, Austin Stewart (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) fell to Adrien Cramer in an 8-1 decision. Sean Carroll (Overland Park, Kan./St. Thomas Aquinas) dropped a 14-7 decision to Luke Cochran at 197 pounds. Jacob Christensen (Durham, Calif./Durham) fell to No. 32 Bryan Caves in an 8-1 decision.
 
The Huskies return to action on January 25 as they travel to Athens, Ohio to take on the Ohio Bobcats.
