DeKALB, IL – Junior
Craig Long (Alpharetta, Ga./Milton) of the Northern Illinois University men's golf team was recognized Wednesday as the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week for his play in last week's Badger Invitational.
Long, a finance major with a 3.618 cumulative grade point average, won the individual title at the Badger Invitational at TPC Wisconsin last Tuesday with a career-low 54-hole score of 11-under par 205. He played his final 27 holes bogey free with nine birdies and an eagle. The junior is the first Huskie to win an individual title since 2023 and is the third to win a tournament in the last five years. Long's 54-hole score of 205 is the lowest by a NIU golfer since Joo-Young Lee posted a 14-under par 202 in his win at the 2016 Desert Shootout.
Long was named the MAC Co-Golfer of the Week on Sept. 26 for his win at Wisconsin. He is the eighth Huskie to be named MAC Golfer of the Week since 2020.
The Huskies' next tournament is the Purdue Fall Invitational Oct. 13-14.
