Huskies Hit the Road for First MAC Games at Ball State and Miami

DeKALB, Ill.—After defending home court in the opening weekend of Mid-American Conference volleyball, the Northern Illinois University Huskies (9-2, 2-0 MAC) will travel to Ball State University (6-8, 2-0 MAC) and Miami (Ohio) (8-6, 2-0 MAC). The Huskies and Cardinals of Ball State have first serve set for 5 p.m. CT on October 2 before NIU travels to the RedHawks for a 5:30 p.m. match time on October 3.
 
In the opening weekend of MAC play, the Huskies had a reverse sweep of Central Michigan in five sets before sweeping Eastern Michigan on Friday (Sept. 25).
 
Against Central Michigan, Emma McCartney (Cleveland, Ohio/Chardon) set a new career best in service aces with four as the Huskies tallied seven as a team. With five solo blocks, Rylea Alvin (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) had a career best as she led the Huskies with seven blocks.
Jordyn Tynsky (Denton, Texas/Denton Guyer) matched her career best with four service aces, as NIU recorded five as a team in the contest against Eastern Michigan.
 
A Look at the Huskies Numbers
 
Ava Grevengoed (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet West) and McCartney lead the Huskies in kills per set with 3.02 and 3.00 per set.
 
Tynsky and Autumn Flynn (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) have combined for 36 service aces this season.
 
Flynn, Grevengoed, Ella Strausberger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North), Tynsky, and Alvin are all in the top-10 in the MAC for hitting percentage, kills, assists, service aces, blocks, and digs per game.
 
Preparing for the Cardinals
 
The Cardinals enter the week with a 6-8 record, having defeated Buffalo and Akron in the opening MAC weekend.
 
Leading the Cardinals, Carson Tyler has 4.34 kills per set with Noelle VanOort is averaging 3.26 kills per set. Lindsey Green leads the team with 18 aces this season.
 
On the defensive side of the ball, Sophie Ledbetter leads the team with 226 digs this season, for an average of 3.90 per set. Gwen Crull leads the team with .67 blocks per set while Camryn Wise leads the team with 38 total blocks.  
 
Ready for the RedHawks
 
Eastern Michigan enters the week with a record of 8-6 and mirrored the Huskies with a five-set victory before a three-set sweep in opening MAC weekend play.
 
Chelsea Williams leads the team with 2.76 kills per set with Molly Creech and Lauren Coyne averaging 2.46 and 2.24 kills per set. Elli Hanson leads Miami with 12 aces this season, averaging .24 per set.
 
Defensively, Creech leads the team with 3.26 digs per set alongside Anna McClure with 3.20 digs per set. Gentry Warrick leads the team in blocks with 1.48 per set and a total of 77 blocks this season.
