DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team is back in action on Friday night at SIUE to take on the Cougars. Tip-off at First Community Arena is at 6 p.m. CT with the game broadcast on ESPN+ with live audio on NIUHuskies.com.
NIU (0-4) shot a season-high 42.1 percent from the three-point line in its last game at UIC on Nov. 13, a 66-55 loss. The Huskies trailed by 15 at halftime and got as close as six points with under a minute to go in the third quarter. NIU made a season-high eight three-pointers in the game, three of which were made by junior forward
Nevaeh Wingate (Liverpool, N.Y./St. John's).
Wingate finished the game leading all players with 23 points, going 5-for-8 from the field and 10-for-14 from the free throw line. She also had seven rebounds. Wingate is among the top-15 scorers in the Mid-American Conference at 13.8 points per game and also leads NIU in field goal percentage at 56.3 percent.
Freshman
Cyra Conwell (Chicago, Ill./Butler College Prep) made her first career start at UIC and scored 10 points, all in the third quarter. Conwell was a perfect 4-for-4 from the floor with two threes, adding four rebounds, two assists and a steal.
SIUE (3-1) defeated Indiana State 81-71 on Wednesday morning at First Community Arena. The Cougars held the Sycamores to 25.0 percent shooting in the second quarter to turn a 19-13 first quarter lead into a 35-21 halftime advantage. SIUE shot over 40 percent from the field for the game and forced 18 turnovers. Freshman guard Kiyoko Proctor led all scorers with 26 points, making 13-of-15 free throws. Graduate forward Adebukola Akomolafe added 20 points. Proctor leads SIUE in scoring at 15.5 points per game. SIUE is averaging 71.0 points per game and holding opponents to 58.3 points per game.
NIU leads the all-time series against SIUE 7-5. The Cougars have won the last two meetings, including an 89-79 win in Edwardsville on Dec. 3, 2023.
