DEKALB, Ill. – Four members of the Northern Illinois University men's soccer team,
Atahan Arslan (Ismir, Turkiye),
Roman Khela (Huddersfield, England),
Grant Paskus (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) and
Tomasz Slawek (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team, announced on Tuesday (Nov. 25).
Arslan, a sport management major with a 3.67 grade point average, Arslan started 15 matches for the Huskies this season, posting a 1.16 goals against average and a .726 save percentage with four shutouts. He was named to the MVC All-Tournament Team this past weekend.
Khela major is marketing and has a 3.938 GPA. In his first season as a Huskie, Khela appeared in all 17 matches, making 16 starts. He scored his first career goal in NIU's victory over Bowling Green (Nov. 5) to clinch a share of the Missouri Valley Conference title and also recorded a trio of assists.
Paskus, who is a statistics major with a 3.73 GPA, appeared in all 17 matches this season, making 15 starts. The sophomore midfielder scored a goal against Kansas City (Sept. 1) and recorded an assist against Bowling Green (Nov. 5) to help the Huskies clinch a share of the conference regular season title.
Slawek is majoring in political science and holds a 3.66 GPA. He appeared in 16 matches in his first season at NIU, making 13 starts. The central defender from Crystal Lake, Ill., scored his first career goal in a 2-1 victory over UIC (Oct. 25).
To be eligible for College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must have a 3.5 GPA, sophomore standing and have played in 90 percent of a team's matches or started 66 percent.
NIU finished the season with an 8-5-4 mark, winning a share of the Missouri Valley Conference regular season title.
