DeKALB, IL – Redshirt-Senior linebacker Quinn Urwiler (Mooseheart, Ill./North Dakota) of the Northern Illinois University football team was named the Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday for his play in Friday's game against Kent State.

Urwiler led NIU with 12 tackles in the Huskies' season finale against Kent State. He recorded his first career interception in his 56th and final college football game, picking off Dru DeShields with 8:11 to go in the second quarter. Two plays later NIU scored to go up 14-10. Early in the fourth quarter, Urwiler forced a DaShawn Martin fumble that Taylor Powell (Belleville, Ill./East St. Louis) recovered and returned 49 yards to the Kent State one yard-line, which led to another NIU touchdown that put the Huskies up 31-20. It was his first career forced fumble.

Urwiler finished the season with 141 tackles, the most by an NIU defender since 1992. He is the fourth Huskie to have 140 or more tackles in a season since 1990. Urwiler tied for the conference lead in tackles at 11.8 per game, which also puts him third in the nation.
