DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team continues it's six-game road trip on Wednesday night with a matchup against the Indiana State Sycamores. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. CT at the Hulman Center with the game broadcast locally on 94-9 WDKB as well as ESPN+.
NIU (2-5) had its brief two-game winning streak snapped on Sunday in a 65-52 loss at Evansville. Since allowing their first two opponents to score over 75 points, the Huskies have held the last five opponents to 57.2 points per game. NIU is fourth in the Mid-American Conference in field goal percentage defense at 38.8 percent and fifth in scoring defense at 62.7 points allowed per game.
Nevaeh Wingate (Liverpool, N.Y./St. John's) and
Julia Sollberger (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap) both led NIU with 12 points at Evansville Sunday. It was Wingate's fifth game this season in double-figure scoring. She also had a team-high six rebounds, her fourth consecutive game with at least five boards.
Sollberger's 12 points were a career-high as well as her 30 minutes played. She was 5-for-10 from the field and had two steals. Sollberger is the third Huskie in as many games to score in double figures off the bench.
Sa'Mahn Johnson (Columbus, Ohio/Reynoldsburg) had 14 points at SIUE on Nov. 21 followed by
Teresa Mbemba's (Benguela, Angola/Presbyterian) 19 points in the win over Chicago State on Nov. 24.
Indiana State (3-3) was last in action on Nov. 24 with a 102-50 win over Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. The Sycamores shot 52 percent from the field and forced 27 turnovers. Tierney Kelsey and Jayci Allen both scored a game-high 17 points as six different Sycamores scored in double figures. Kelsey leads Indiana State in scoring at 17.5 points per game. Indiana State is second in the country with 41.3 bench points per game.
NIU leads the all-time series against Indiana State 6-2. The Huskies have won five consecutive games in the series including neutral site wins in each of the two seasons. Last season NIU rallied from 18 points down for an 82-78 victory in Lexington, Ky. on Dec. 15, 2024. Indiana State is the third Missouri Valley Conference opponent for the Huskies this season.
The Huskies are next in action on Sunday, Dec. 7 at #10 Iowa State at 1 p.m.
