Men's Tennis | February 1

Normal, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University men's tennis team won the doubles point and Federico Scotuzzi (Bergamo, Italy/North Alabama) earned a win at No. 4 singles as the Huskies fell to Illinois State 5-2 on Saturday.

NIU (3-2) won all three doubles matches to take the doubles point.

Iker Gaztambide Arrastia (Pamplona, Spain) and Scotuzzi who won the MAC Doubles team of the week for their play last week opened the dual by taking down a national ranked duo.  The pair knocked off Caden Scarlett and Tomas Valencia 6-2. Saul Berdullas (Santiago de Compostela, Spain) and Sam Klein (Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield East) picked up a
7-5 win at No. 2 doubles to take the doubles point. Iker Dellien Velasco (Trinidad, Bolivia/UAB) and Chiao Bo Suo Nan (Taiwan) also won by a score of 7-5 at No. 3 doubles.

In No. 4 singles Scotuzzi defeated Jett Leong 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. ISU (3-3) picked up the rest of the singles matches to take the 5-2 win.

NIU returns to the court on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. as NIU travels to take on Notre Dame.
