NIU Continues Road Stretch At Western Michigan Saturday

Huskies Play Second Of Three Consecutive Road Games To Resume MAC Play

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team, winners of three of its last four games, continues it's three-game road stretch Saturday at Western Michigan. Tip-off is at 11 a.m. CT with the game broadcast on ESPN+ with live audio on NIUHuskies.com.
 
NIU (11-12, 4-7 MAC) has won two straight after a 75-62 win at App State last Saturday in the MAC-SBC Challenge. The Huskies tied a season-high with 13 three-pointers, shooting 48.1 percent from the three-point arc and 44.8 percent from the field. NIU made five threes in the first quarter to take a 23-14 lead. NIU leads the Mid-American Conference in three-point percentage at 37.4 percent that puts the Huskies 12th in the country.
 
Alecia Doyle (Carterville, Ill./SEMO) led the Huskies with 22 points, going 8-for-13 from the field and adding six rebounds. The junior guard was named the MAC Player of the Week on Tuesday after leading NIU to it's two wins over Kent State and App State. Doyle had a season-high 23 points in the win over the Golden Flashes on Feb. 5, going 4-for-4 from the three-point line. She is the second Huskie to be named Player of the Week this season. Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) earned the honor on Dec. 17 after having 20 points and 11 rebounds in NIU's win over Indiana State.
 
Lexi Carlsen (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) and Sidney McCrea (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie) both made four three-pointers in the win at App State. Carlsen leads the MAC in three-point percentage at 43.6 percent which puts her among the top 25 in the nation. She is one of eight freshmen in NCAA Division I to have at least 50 three-pointers this season. McCrea has made four threes in each of the last two games, shooting 54.2 percent from long range.
 
Western Michigan (10-12, 6-5 MAC) has also won two games in a row after a 59-50 win at Texas State. The Broncos shot 47.5 percent from the field and held Texas State to 4-for-19 from long range. Marina Asensio led Western Michigan with 14 points and a game-high six assists. Hannah Spitzley added 10 points. Asensio leads the Broncos in scoring at 13.8 points per game as well as assists with 4.8 per game. Spitzley leads the MAC in steals with 2.55 per game. She had a game-high 20 points in the first meeting of the year between NIU and Western Michigan, a 61-57 Broncos win in DeKalb on Jan. 11.
 
NIU wraps up its three-game road stretch on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Ohio at 6 p.m. CT.
