ST. CHARLES, Mo.— Jenna Turner (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) was the lone Huskie to record a hit in both games as the Northern Illinois University Huskies softball team (4-7) took on the Green Bay Phoenix and the St. Louis University Billikens.The Huskies defeated Green Bay 2-0 before falling 6-0 to St. Louis.
Green Bay (3-4) outhit the Huskies 6-4 in the first game as three Huskies went 1-for-2 at the plate.
St. Louis (4-4) outhit the Huskies 9-2 as neither team recorded a fielding error in the contest.
"We were thankful for the opportunity to get to play today," noted NIU head coach Kathryn Gleason. "We played good softball, just need to make some adjustments at the plate to get the offense going. We will be back at it tomorrow."
Green Bay Recap
Madison Mathews (Yuma, Ariz./Cibola) had the first hit of the game for the Huskies before scoring on
Rylie Hartman's (Kankakee, Ill./Herscher) RBI double in the second inning.
Ally Rodriguez (Romeoville, Ill./Plainfield East) scored on Mathew's RBI sacrifice fly in the third to double NIU's lead for what would become the final run of the game off the Green Bay starting pitcher.
The Phoenix put runners in scoring position but went 0-for-3 as the Huskie defense held steady.
Hannah Bolly (Beloit, Wis./Parker) took on pitching duties for the Huskies and recorded six strikeouts.
St. Louis Recap
Turner had the first hit of the game for the Huskies, recording a single in the sixth inning.
The Billikens put runs on the board in the first and fourth innings before a pair of home runs in the fifth put their lead at 4-0. St. Louis added to their lead in the sixth with a pair of runs as they led 6-0.
Brianna Pechman (West Chicago, Ill./West Chicago Community) singled to third base in the seventh inning for the second hit of the day for the Huskies as they fell to the Billikens.
Danielle Stewart (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way East) started in the circle for the Huskies, going 4.2 innings and recording all six strikeouts.

Today's games were scheduled as part of a four-game slate in St. Charles as the Bellarmine Tournament (Kentucky) was canceled due to weather. The Huskies conclude action in St. Charles, Missouri on February 24 as they take on Lindenwood in a doubleheader. Game times are set for 2 and 4 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex.
