NIU Looks For Season Sweep Of Golden Flashes

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team is back on the road Wednesday night, heading to Kent State for a 6 p.m. matchup against the Golden Flashes at the M.A.C. Center. The game will be broadcast on 94-9 WDKB, the NIU Huskies app and ESPN+.
 
NIU (12-14, 5-9 MAC) looks to get back on track after losses last week to Ohio and Eastern Michigan. The Huskies led Eastern Michigan by 10 points going into the fourth quarter last Saturday but went 2-for-12 from the field in the final period as the Eagles rallied for a 76-72 win. Alecia Doyle (Carterville, Ill./SEMO) led NIU in scoring for the fourth time in five games with 19 points and nine rebounds. Over the last five games Doyle has averaged 17.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per game, shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 82.1 percent from the free throw line.
 
Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) had 18 points, five rebounds and two assists against Eastern Michigan on Saturday. It was her seventh straight game in double figure scoring and 14th in the last 16 games. Koker is averaging 15.1 points per game in Mid-American Conference play. She is third in the MAC in assists at 4.9 per game and fourth in free throw percentage at 84.8 percent.
 
Wednesday's game features the top two three-point shooting teams in the MAC. NIU leads the MAC in three-point percentage at 36.9 percent with Kent State second at 36.4 percent. The Golden Flashes lead the league with 8.1 three-pointers per game and NIU is third at 7.5. The Huskies shot a season-high 61.1 percent from the arc against Kent State, making 11-of-18 three-point attempts in a 73-69 win.
 
Kent State (17-10, 9-5 MAC) is coming off a 60-54 win over MAC leaders Ball State on Saturday. The Golden Flashes shot 40.0 percent from the field and outrebounded Ball State by nine 30-21. Jenna Batsch led all scorers with 18 points as Mya Babbitt added 12. Batsch is fourth in the MAC in scoring at 16.6 points per game and second in free throw percentage at 90.7 percent. The Golden Flashes lead the MAC with 16.6 assists per game as well as free throw percentage at 79.7 percent.
 
NIU is back at the NIU Convocation Center on Saturday, March 1 to take on Bowling Green at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
