Women’s Basketball To Host Bowling Green Saturday For Senior Day

NIU To Honor Chelby Koker, Sidney McCrea, Laura Nickel and Brooke Stonebraker Prior to Game

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team is back at the NIU Convocation Center on Saturday to take on the Bowling Green Falcons at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
 
Saturday's game is the first of a doubleheader with the NIU men's basketball team hosting Western Michigan at 3:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at NIUHuskies.com/tickets as well as through the NIU Athletics Ticket Office at (815) 753-PACK (7225).
 
Seniors Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran), Sidney McCrea (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Prairie), Laura Nickel (Marshall, Wis./Marshall) and Brooke Stonebraker (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles) will be honored prior to Saturday's game. The quartet has played in a combined 443 games in their careers and has a combined 11 Academic All-MAC selections.
 
Koker has scored in double figures in eight straight games and in 15 of her last 17 games. She had 13 points and a team-high four assists Wednesday night at Kent State. Koker enters Saturday's game as NIU's all-time leader in free throw percentage at 84.3 percent. She is in the top-five all-time at NIU in points, assists, three-pointers, free throws made and games played. Koker is also one of three Huskies in program history to have been an All-MAC selection three times in her career, joining Stephanie Raymond (2003-07) and Jennifer Youngblood (2000-04).
 
Alecia Doyle (Carterville, Ill./SEMO) led NIU in scoring Wednesday night with 21 points. It was the fifth time in the last six games the junior guard led the Huskies in scoring. Over that stretch Doyle is averaging 18.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 51.9 percent from long range. She has scored at least 20 points in a game six times this season, four of which have come in the last six games.
 
Bowling Green comes to DeKalb riding a five-game winning streak after a 91-61 win on Wednesday night over Ohio. Paige Kohler and Amy Velasco both had a game-high 22 points with Velasco adding 11 assists. The Falcons are third in the Mid-American Conference in three-point percentage at 35.0 percent and second with 7.4 three-pointers per game. Velasco leads Bowling Green with 16.2 points and 4.8 assists per game. The Falcons won the first meeting between the two teams 74-60 at Stroh Center on Jan. 18.
 
The Huskies host Toledo on Wednesday, March 5 for the final home game of the regular season. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. CT.
