Three Huskies Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

DeKALB, Ill. – Northern Illinois University women's tennis student-athletes Maria Dzemeshkevich, Isabella Righi and Reagan Welch on Tuesday were named to the 2025 CSC Academic All-District team as selected by College Sports Communicators.
 
The team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. In order to qualify for the honor, student-athletes must have reached sophomore level both athletically and academically, must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher and must have competed in at least 70 percent of a team's dual matches.
 
Dzemeshkevich, a senior from Moscow, Russia, competed primarily at No. 1 singles for the Huskies where she earned first team All Mid-American Conference honors, carries a 3.84 GPA in software development with a minor in Esports industry professions. Dzemeshkevich also formed half of NIU's top doubles pair. Her athletic honors, which included a 15-11 singles record, qualified her as a finalist and she will advance to the national ballot to be considered for Academic All-America honors.
 
A two-time CSC Academic All-District honoree, Righi competed in 25 doubles and 16 singles matches for NIU as a junior, playing No. 2 doubles and at No. 5 singles. The Palma de Mallorca, Spain product is majoring in biomedical engineering with a minor in applied mathematics where she has posted a 3.865 GPA.
 
Welch, a senior from Greenbrier, Tenn., earned CSC Academic All-District honors for the third time with a perfect 4.0 GPA in psychology alongside a minor in counseling.  She compiled a 17-6 mark in doubles on the season to lead NIU and went 8-2 in 10 singles matches.
 
All three of NIU's CSC Academic All-District student-athletes played a huge role in the line-up during the Huskies' historic season, which culminated in an appearance at the NIT Championships, the first national postseason tournament for NIU as a NCAA program. The Huskies won a school record 22 matches, claimed the Mid-American Conference West Division crown for the first time in school history, and played in the MAC Championship match for the first time.
