Women's Basketball | July 24

DeKALB, Ill.—Northern Illinois University women's basketball head coach Jacey Brooks has announced the addition of Ty Battle to the Huskies staff. Battle will serve as the Director of Operations and Assistant Coach for the Huskies this upcoming season.

Battle played professionally in England and France from 2022 to 2024 after competing at Indiana State (2017-19) and Delaware (2019-2022). Battle was a two-time All-CAA First Team member, recorded 1,000 career points, and earned spots on the All-Defensive and All-Tournament teams while wearing the Blue and Gold.

"Ty is a tremendous addition to the Huskie family and a key piece that completes our staff," noted Brooks. "She brings strong NIU and Chicago ties, experience playing at a high level, and understands what it takes to be successful.  I'm confident she'll be an outstanding role model for our student athletes, both on and off the court.  Her basketball knowledge, work ethic, and personality will allow her to connect with our current players and recruits in the right way.  I'm thrilled to welcome someone of her caliber to our program—she's going to be an important part of our success!"

Battle also brings experience at the professional level with the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the operations department and with the Chicago Blackhawks Fan Events and Experiences division. While playing internationally, Battle served as a marketing assistant and brand ambassador across multiple languages and media outlets.

"I'm so excited to officially join the NIU Women's Basketball family!," said Battle. "It's an honor to work under Coach Brooks and be part of a program that aligns with everything I value: hard work, growth, and community. This opportunity means even more knowing I get to continue building on the legacy of my last name. My father left his mark as a Hall of Famer at NIU, and now I'm proud to carry that legacy forward in my own way."

Battle is the daughter of NIU Athletics Hall of Famer Kenny Battle, who starred for the Huskie men's basketball program for two seasons from 1984-86. The elder Battle went on to play two years at the University of Illinois before being selected in the first round of the 1989 NBA Draft by the Detroit Pistons, playing four seasons in the NBA.

The Huskies women's basketball program recently garnered national attention as they received WBCA Academic Special Mention Honors on Tuesday (July 22).
