Huskies Open MAC Play Hosting Central Michigan and Eastern Michigan

DeKALB, Ill.—With their best start since the 2011 season, the Northern Illinois University Huskies volleyball team (7-2) is set to open Mid-American Conference play this week as they host the Central Michigan University Chippewas (3-9) on Sept 25 before welcoming the Eagles of Eastern Michigan University (8-5). Both games are set for 6 p.m. inside Victor E. Court on the NIU campus.
 
New and returning fans can purchase general admission, family 4-pack, or courtside seats to watch the Huskies all season with general admission tickets starting at just $35. The Huskies are throwing it back to the early 2000's on Thursday (Sept. 25) with Y2K night. Twisted Teas (with valid ID) will be available for $2.50.
 
Friday's match will feature a "Red Out" with fans encouraged to show their Huskie pride and wear red to the game.
 
Preparing for the Chippewas
 
The Chippewas of Central Michigan bring a 3-9 record to DeKalb as both teams open conference play on Thursday night.
 
Taylor Cripe leads CMU with 2.73 kills per set while Grace Thomas has 18 aces on the season. On the defensive side of the ball, Alina Anderson leads the team with 2.63 digs per set. Abby Olin is in the books for 41 blocks this season.
 
The Chippewas took the 2024 meeting between the Huskies as the series records stands at 41-29 in favor of NIU.
 
Eyeing the Eagles
 
Eastern Michigan enters the week with a record of 8-5 and open MAC play against Western Michigan on Thursday night before meeting the Huskies on Friday.
 
Leading the way this season, Ava Siefke and AshleeKay Christensen have over 3 kills per set for EMU. Hatteras Welker leads the team with 20 aces and 69 blocks while Surabhi Srinivasan is averaging 4.04 digs per set.
 
Eastern Michigan claimed the victory last season, a five-set thriller in Ypsilanti. NIU holds the series record 38-30.
 
Non-Conference Recap
 
The Huskies won two of their tournaments during the non-conference slate, with the Stetson Invitational and NIU Invitational. The Huskies took second at the IU Indianapolis Hampton Inn Invitational before entering a bye week.
 
Ava Grevengoed (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet West) and Emma McCartney (Cleveland, Ohio/Chadron) are leading the Huskies by over 100 kills and over 3 kills per set.
 
Ella Strausberger (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) and Jordyn Tynsky (Denton, Texas/Denton Guyer)  have 15 aces to lead the Huskies and are joined by Autumn Flynn (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) and Grevengoed with double-digit aces.  Tynsky is leading the defensive efforts with 3.81 digs per set (141 total) while Rylea Alvin has 31 blocks this season.
