DeKALB, IL - The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team wraps up a stretch of three out of four games on the road Saturday against the Ohio Bobcats at Ohio's Convocation Center. NIU (3-13, 1-4 MAC) looks to rebound from a 70-49 loss at Toledo on Wednesday night. The Huskies are the first team to outrebound the Rockets in Mid-American Conference play, holding a 29-25 rebound edge Wednesday night. It was the first time since Nov. 24 against Chicago State the Huskies won the rebound battle.
Nevaeh Wingate (Liverpool, N.Y./St. John's) led the Huskies with 15 points and a game-high eight rebounds against Toledo. It was the junior forward's sixth straight game scoring in double figures. She also tied her career-high with three three-pointers. Wingate is averaging 14.0 points per game over the last six games. She ranks among the top-10 in the MAC in steals with 1.8 per game, recording multiple steals in five of the last seven games.
Graduate guard
Nadechka Laccen (San Juan, Puerto Rico/St. Bonaventure) had nine points and four rebounds against Toledo on Wednesday. In her last four games Laccen is averaging 9.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. She had 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals in the Huskies' 64-58 win at Buffalo on Jan. 7.
Ohio (10-5, 4-1 MAC) had a five-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night in a 71-68 loss at Kent State. It was the first time in eight games the Bobcats were held under 70 points. Bella Ranallo and Monica Williams led Ohio with 12 points each. Ohio is second in the MAC in scoring offense, averaging 74.7 points per game. Junior guard Bailey Tabeling is second in the MAC with 2.40 three-pointers per game and leads the Bobcats in scoring at 13.4 points per game. Ohio leads the MAC with 9.3 threes per game and 12.6 steals per game.
The Bobcats lead the all-time series against NIU 26-23. Ohio has won three of the last four meetings after NIU had won three in a row. The Bobcats won both games last season, winning 71-55 in DeKalb on Jan. 4, 2025 and 74-70 in Athens on Feb. 19.
