DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University doubles team of
Isabella Righi and
Lucia Yecora earned Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week, the league announced today.
Righi and Yecora went 2-0 on court No. 2 over the weekend against Missouri and Chicago State.
The duo clinched the pivotal doubles point in the match against Missouri with a 6-3 win on Saturday afternoon. NIU went on to defeat the Tigers 4-3. The win over Missouri is the first win over a power conference team for NIU since at least 2005.
In the evening session, Righi and Yecora recorded a quick 6-1 victory over Chicago State.
Righi and Yecora secured three wins in the Northwestern Invitational from Jan. 9-11.
It's the first time the duo has been selected as the MAC Doubles Team of the Week. Righi earned Doubles Team of the Week along with
Diana Lukyanova on Feb. 13, 2024 while Yecora earned Singles Player of the Week twice last season on Feb. 3 and March 31.
The Huskies earned seven MAC Player of the Week honors last season.
NIU has two more matches ahead this weekend, first hosting Marquette on Friday at 9 a.m. and the Huskies will travel to Valparaiso at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
