Women's Tennis | January 22
DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team is back in action this weekend with a pair of matches against Marquette and Valparaiso. The Huskies (2-1) host Marquette on Friday morning at 9 a.m. and travel to Valparaiso at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
NIU began its season last weekend, notching wins over both Missouri and Chicago State on Saturday. The Huskies fell to Wisconsin in the season opener on Friday.
Senior
Jenna Horne (Glenview, Ill./Glenbrook South) clinched the match against Missouri with a 6-3, 6-3 singles victory. The win over the Tigers is the first win over a power conference team for NIU since at least 2005.

Isabella Righi (Palma de Mallorca, Spain/IES Centre de Tecnificacio Esportiva IB) and sophomore
Lucia Yecora (Seville, Spain/IES V Centenario School) earned Mid-American Conference Doubles Team of the Week after clinching the doubles point against Missouri and downing Chicago State, 6-1.
Marquette (0-2) opened its season against North Dakota and Montana State. Sophomore Elena Duva of the Golden Eagles went 2-0 in singles through the weekend. NIU has played Marquette in each of the last five seasons, winning the past four, including a 5-2 victory last March.
Valparaiso (0-1) fell to SUIE in its opener last Sunday. The Beacons competed against the Cougars with a young lineup, with three sophomores and two freshmen taking the courts in singles. Four of the last five matches between NIU and Valparaiso have been decided by one point.
The Huskies will host Butler and Minnesota next weekend at home at the Nelson Tennis Center at Chick Evans Field House, beginning with Butler on Friday, Jan. 30 and Minnesota on Saturday, Jan. 31.
