Huskies To Host Golden Flashes and Bobcats in Doubleheader Dual

DeKALB, Ill.—In a wrestling doubleheader, the Northern Illinois University Huskies wrestling (5-5, 1-0 MAC) will host the Kent State University Golden Flashes (5-4, 1-2 MAC) and the Ohio University Bobcats (4-2, 1-1 MAC) on Friday, January 23 in a pair of Mid-American Conference duals. The Huskies and Golden Flashes will take the mat at 4 p.m. with the dual between the Huskies and Bobcats set to start at 6 p.m. as action will take place in Victor E. Court
 
The duals will air on ESPN+ with Terry Bonadonna and Rocky Lombardi ('23) on the call with live results provided by TrackWrestling. Huskie fans are encouraged to "Wear Red" for the dual with free admission.
 
NIU was last in action on January 16 as they hosted Central Michigan in a MAC dual. The Huskies posted a 19-15 victory as the contest came down the final bout. The Huskies won the opening three bouts before the Chippewas won the next two. Central Michigan chipped away at the Huskies lead, as NIU lead 15-14 heading into the final bout. Devon Dawson (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Goddard), who earned MAC West Wrestler of the Week honors, posted his sixth major decision victory over Bryan Caves (Central Michigan) to secure the win.
 
Kent State was last in action at the David H. Lehman Open at Franklin and Marshall University, placing three Golden Flashes in the top-6. Freshman grappler Silas Stits led the Golden Flashes with a second place finish at 149 pounds. NIU has won the last six meetings between the programs.
 
Ohio competed against SIUE last Friday (January 16), falling 25-11 to the Cougars. Derek Raike (157), Garrett Thompson (174), and Zayne Lehman (197) all claimed wins with Thompson and Lehman earning major decision victories. The trio is joined by Sal Perrine (184) in the national rankings. In last year's meeting, NIU posted a 21-20 victory, their closest margin of victory in recent years.
