Women's Basketball Hosts Central Michigan Saturday

Huskies Look To Split Season Series Against Chippewas

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team looks to get back on track Saturday as the Central Michigan Chippewas come to the NIU Convocation Center. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. CT.

NIU (4-16, 2-7 MAC) was held to a season-low 43 points on Wednesday by the Mid-American Conference's top scoring defense in the Miami RedHawks, falling 71-43. The Huskies shot 33.3 percent from the field and were 1-for-7 from the three-point arc. Nadechka Laccen (San Juan, Puerto Rico/St. Bonaventure) led the Huskies with 11 points on Wednesday, her fourth consecutive game in double figure scoring. In that stretch Laccen is averaging 14.5 points per game and shooting 54.1 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from the free throw line.
 
Senior guard Maria Serracanta (Sabadell, Spain/Mercer) enters Saturday's game fourth in the MAC in assist/turnover ratio at 1.55. Serracanta has had a positive assist/turnover ratio in eight of the last 10 games. She has had at least three assists in nine of the last 10 games, tying her career-high of six assists at Ohio on Jan. 17.
 
The Huskies have won five straight games against Central Michigan at the Convocation Center. The Chippewas are 12-7 on the year and 6-3 in the MAC after a 76-70 loss to Ball State on Wednesday night. Sophomore guard Madi Morson led all scorers with 27 points, going 4-for-6 from the three-point line. Morson leads the conference with 18.6 points per game. Central Michigan leads the MAC in three-point percentage defense at 27.0 percent and is second in three-point percentage at 33.8 percent. The Chippewas made a season-high 14 three-pointers in the first meeting against NIU, an 89-51 win at McGuirk Arena on Dec. 20.
 
NIU is next in action on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Ball State. Tip-off at Worthen Arena is at 5:30 p.m.
