Women's Basketball | October 8

DeKALB, IL – Senior Forward Nevaeh Wingate (Liverpool, N.Y./St. John's) of the Northern Illinois University women's basketball team has been named to the Horizon League's Preseason All-League Second Team as the conference released it's preseason poll on Thursday.

Wingate led the Huskies last season in scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. She scored in double figures 21 times in 29 games. Over the last 10 games of the 2025-26 season Wingate averaged 17.4 points per game while shooting over 43 percent from the field. She had five 20-point efforts in that stretch including a career-high 27 points in a win over Buffalo. Wingate posted her first career double-double in the Huskies' win at SIUE on Nov. 21, 2025 with 13 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

"Nevaeh brings a lot of versatility in the post," said head coach Jacey Brooks, who is entering her second season at NIU. "She makes us a more well-rounded team and we'll be a better team offensively this season with what she can do on the floor."

The Huskies open the 2026-27 season at the NIU Convocation Center on Monday, Nov. 2 against Indiana State. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
