Huskies Host Northern Kentucky in Homecoming Matchups

DeKALB, Ill.—Continuing action at home, the Northern Illinois University volleyball team is set to host Northern Kentucky University during the Huskies' Homecoming week. The Huskies (7-7, 1-3 Horizon) and Norse (9-6, 4-0 Horizon) will have first serve at 6 p.m. on Oct. 9, before a 2 p.m. first serve on Oct. 10.
 
As part of homecoming celebrations, fans are encouraged to "Wear Red" to Friday's (Oct. 9) match. Due to additional events in the building, fans are asked to enter the Convocation Center via Entrance 5, located by lot C3.

The Huskies last played at home during NIU's homecoming week in 2023, sweeping Eastern Michigan in a pair of matches.
 
Previewing Northern Kentucky
 
The Norse are the defending Horizon League Championships and have won the last six matches, dating back to Sept. 18.
 
This will be the second meeting between the Norse and Huskies after NKU took the first meeting, a reverse sweep in 2018.
 
Ivey Stocks, who is second in the league in hitting percentage, leads NKU with 2.73 kills per set. Luci Heid, Sydney Bray, and Ava Hoying all average 2.36 or more kills per set.
 
At the service live, Allison Risley leads the team with 25 aces, an average of .44 per set.
 
Northern Kentucky leads the league in blocks, averaging 2.28 per set.
 
Glancing at the Numbers
 
Ava Grevengoed (Shorewood, Ill./Joliet West) leads the team with 142 kills this season, an average of 2.96 per set.
 
Joining Grevengoed in the top-3 are Katie Pahl (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) and Autumn Flynn (Luxemburg, Wis./Luxemburg-Casco) with 2.52 and 2.29 kills per set as all three Huskies have over 100 kills this season.
 
At the service line, Pahl leads the way with 14 aces this season. She is joined in double-digit aces by Delaney Steers (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) with 13 and Flynn and Grevengoed adding 10 each.
 
On the defensive side of the ball, Charlotte Gramzow (Royal Oak, Mich./Lutheran Northwest) averages 2.91 digs per set. Steers and Grevengoed have 2.71 and 2.56 digs per set to round out the top-3 for NIU.
 
Continuing their blocking power, Flynn and Rylea Alvin (Randolph, Wis./Randolph) lead the way with 39 and 34 blocks, respectively, this season, as they rank in the top 20 in the Horizon League in blocks per set.
