NIU Heads To Kent State For Lone Meeting Against Golden Flashes

DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team goes on the road for a pair of games this week, starting with Wednesday night's matchup at Kent State. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. CT.
 
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with the radio broadcast on 94-9 WDKB, the NIU Huskies app and TuneIn. 
 
NIU (5-20, 2-11 MAC) had four players score in double figures on Saturday in a 75-68 overtime loss to Akron. Nevaeh Wingate (Liverpool, N.Y./St. John's) led all scorers with 22 points and had eight rebounds. She was 8-for-9 from the free throw line. Wingate has scored in double figures in five straight games, averaging 16.0 points per game and shooting 44.4 percent from the field. 
 
The Huskies shot over 80 percent from the free throw line for the second time this season on Saturday. NIU was 19-for-22 against Akron for 86.4 percent, its second-highest free throw percentage of the season. The Huskies shot a season-high 87.5 percent at Ball State on Feb. 4. NIU has shot 75 percent or better from the free throw line in three of the last four games. 
 
Senior forward Marta Hermoso (Seville, Spain/McNeese) scored a career-high 13 points in NIU's games against UMass and Akron last week. Hermoso made a career-high three three-pointers on Saturday against Akron. She set a career-high with four steals against UMass on Feb. 10. 
 
Kent State (11-13, 5-7 MAC) is coming off a 71-61 loss at Ohio on Saturday. The Golden Flashes had won their previous two games against Bowling Green and Appalachian State. Mya Babbitt led Kent State with 15 points and three steals. Anna Campanelli added 12 points. Babbitt leads the Mid-American Conference in free throw percentage at 89.9 percent, second with 2.3 three-pointers per game and third in scoring at 16.8 points per game. Kent State is fifth in the MAC in scoring at 70.5 points per game and third in rebounding at 39.4 per game. 
 
NIU heads to Kalamazoo,Mich. on Saturday, Feb. 21 to face Western Michigan. Tip-off is at 12 p.m. CT.
