MACOMB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team capped its three-match weekend with a 6-1 win at Western Illinois on Sunday afternoon.
Western Illinois claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. The Huskies responded, sweeping the Leathernecks in singles.
Freshman
Rebeca Garcia Miralles (Castellón, Spain / IES Sos Baynat) and senior
Nataly Ninova (Palma de Mallorca, Spain / IES Centre De Tecnificacio Esportiva IB) continued their hot streaks on Sunday, posting wins over Western Illinois to go 3-0 on the weekend. Both Garcia Miralles and Ninova now have eight-match winning streaks.
The Huskies recorded a trio of three-set victories from Garcia Miralles, sophomore
Lucia Yecora (Seville, Spain / IES V Centenario School) and freshman
Sophia Shlyakhta (Vernon Hills, Ill. / Stevenson). Shlyakhta recorded her first win of the dual season, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6.
Sophomore
Irmak Budak (Istanbul, Turkey / SAJEV) defeated Mana Fawcett 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 while senior
Jenna Horne (Glenview, Ill. / Glenbrook South) walked away with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5.
The Huskies will next host UIC on Sunday, March 8 at 1 p.m.
