DEKALB, Ill. – Former Northern Illinois University women's soccer player Amy Carr passed away this past week following a long battle with brain cancer.
Carr was originally diagnosed in 2015 and received treatment that allowed her to live essentially cancer-free for nine years. Since that time, she raised thousands of dollars for brain cancer research by completing half-marathons, full marathons, triathlons and by hosting a charity soccer match. In late 2024, Carr was diagnosed with a recurrence of brain cancer.
A member of the Huskie women's soccer team from 2010-13, Carr earned Second Team All-MAC honors in 2012, becoming the first Huskie women's soccer goalkeeper to earn All-MAC recognition. She finished her time at NIU with 18 career shutouts, second-most in program history, and 282 saves, fifth best in program history.
Carr, a native of Hemel Hempstead, England, represented her country at both Under-17 and Under-19 levels, including at the inaugural Women's Under-17 World Cup in New Zealand in 2008, where England finished fourth. She also played for Arsenal, Chelsea and Reading at youth levels before coming to NIU and played professionally for IL Sandviken in Norway after her time in DeKalb.
