Huskies Fall Just Short at Toledo

TOLEDO, Oh. – The Northern Illinois University women's tennis team lost 4-3 to Toledo on Sunday afternoon, splitting its opening weekend in Mid-American Conference play.

NIU secured the doubles point thanks to Isabella Yecora / Lucia Yecora winning 6-1 at No. 2 and Irmak Budak / Jenna Horne taking a 6-4 win at No. 3.

Sunday's match against the Rockets played out to be extremely competitive with four singles matches going to three sets. The Huskies two wins from singles action came from Nataly Ninova, who won 6-7, 6-2, 6-3, and Rebeca Garcia Miralles, who took a 7-5, 6-2 victory.

Ninova (Palma de Mallorca, Spain / IES Centre De Tecnificacio Esportiva IB) is now 15-4 in singles play while Garcia Miralles (Castellón, Spain / IES Sos Baynat) is 12-1.

The Huskies host Buffalo on Friday and Western Michigan on Sunday.
