DEKALB, Ill. – NIU Athletics and the Huskie Athletic Fund have announced the promotion of Mike Kunigonis and Zach Prater into new roles. Kunigonis has been elevated to Associate Athletic Director/Development & Strategic Initiatives while Prater becomes Assistant Athletic Director/Development. Both of these new roles began on March 1. 

"We are all thrilled to recognize Mike Kunigonis with a well deserved promotion to Associate Athletic Director for Development and Strategic Initiatives, and equally excited to welcome Zack Prater as our new Assistant Athletic Director for Development," said NIU Executive Associate Athletic Director/Chief Revenue Officer Chris Barker. 

"Both Mike and Zack have made tremendous contributions during their time at NIU, and their commitment to supporting our student athletes, coaches, alumni and programs is evident every day! I'm confident they will continue to elevate our efforts and play a pivotal role in growing the Huskie Athletic Fund as we advance the mission and momentum of NIU Athletics."

Kunigonis, who joined the HAF staff in 2023, will oversee and manage all aspects of the Annual Fund, stewardship initiatives including assisting with all capital campaigns. 

Prater transitions into NIU Athletics following two years as General Manager of Ticket Sales with TayMar Ticket Solutions for NIU. He will oversee and manage premium seating while also being involved in donor relations and solicitations.
