DeKALB, IL – The Northern Illinois University women's basketball team wraps up the 2025-26 season on Saturday afternoon at Stroh Center against the Bowling Green Falcons. Tip-off is at 1 p.m. CT.
The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and locally on 94-9 WDKB as well as the NIU Huskies App.
NIU (7-22, 4-13 MAC) closed the home slate with back-to-back wins after a 56-53 win over Buffalo Wednesday night at the NIU Convocation Center for Senior Night. The Huskies erased a 10-point halftime deficit and closed the game on an 8-0 run. It was NIU's fourth double-digit comeback this season.
Nevaeh Wingate (Liverpool, N.Y./St. John's) led NIU with a career-high 27 points against the Bulls, with 18 points in the second half. She had 12 points in the fourth quarter alone and put in six of the eight points in the game-winning run. It was her second straight 20-point game after leading all scorers with 21 points at Eastern Michigan on Feb. 28.
Maria Serracanta (Sabadell, Spain/Mercer) had nine assists with only two turnovers Wednesday night. The senior guard now leads the MAC with a 2.02 assist/turnover ratio, which puts Serracanta among the top-40 players in the nation in that statistical category. In the last five games Serracanta has 31 assists against seven turnovers for a 4.43 assist/turnover ratio.
Bowling Green (16-13, 8-9 MAC) enters the final day of the regular season coming off a 77-65 loss at Central Michigan Wednesday night. The Chippewas were 25-for-29 at the free throw line and outrebounded the Falcons 47-27. Paige Kohler led the Falcons with 16 points and four assists. Lauren Gerken added 11 points and three blocks. Kohler is seventh in the Mid-American Conference in scoring at 14.7 points per game, and third in the league with 2.21 three-pointers per game. As a team the Falcons are second in the MAC with 20.45 turnovers forced per game.
Saturday's game marks NIU's final women's basketball game in the Mid-American Conference. In 28 MAC seasons, NIU has had 50 All-MAC selections, two MAC Freshmen of the Year and three MAC Sixth Players of the Year. The Huskies will become the 12
th member of the Horizon League for the 2026-27 season.
