WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.— Jenna Turner (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) was the only Huskie to record a multi-hit game as she scored the lone run as the Northern Illinois University (4-5) softball team fell in action to the Purdue Boilermakers (15-6).
Turner's run came in the third inning as
Katy Ramage (Germantown Hills, Ill./Metamora Township) singled to the catcher.
"I thought our pitchers gave us a chance today," said NIU head coach Kathryn Gleason. "We had a chance to make the plays and we didn't. Purdue is a fast team and some of the fastest we've seen all season. I'm proud of how Maddy (Madison) Carlson came in calmed them down. Rylie (Hartman) did a good job for us behind the plate in a tight zone."
Purdue scored a pair of runs in the first inning before a four-run inning in the second, including a three-run home run to left-center field. The Boilermakers scored their final runs on a two-run home run in the fifth to seal the 8-1 victory.
Danielle Stewart (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) recorded the first hit of the game for the Huskies, singling through the left side in the first. Stewart was one of five Huskies to record a hit.
Stewart started in the circle for the Huskies, recording three strikeouts in the game.
Madison Carlson (South Beloit, Ill./South Beloit) added five strikeouts for NIU as she issued one walk in the contest.
The Huskies continue action at the Boilermaker Classic on March 8 with a pair of games against St. Bonaventure and Purdue. The Huskies face St. Bonaventure at 9 a.m. CT before taking on the hosts at 2 p.m.
